Getting Wet? No Thanks

At almost 55 and after years of beach holidays I’ve finally stopped beating myself up about not liking getting wet!

Now don’t get me wrong.  Some types of getting wet are just fine: a hot shower to reinvigorate, an oily bath to soothe at the end of a long day, a relaxing swim in a very warm pool at a spa. All good.  But plunging into a freezing swimming pool or wading out to sea with the water getting progressively colder; I just don’t like it anymore.  And I think that’s fine.  I can make the choice and sit happily at the edge of the action, watching my friends laughing and having fun in a way that they can and I just can’t.  I have no fear of missing out.  I know what it feels like (cold and wet) and I know what sitting in the shade under a tree feels like (warm and dry).

Of course, there is another great benefit here.  The ‘bikini body’ can stay nicely covered up in an on trend kaftan.  In fact, my only criteria for a nice bikini these days is that the bits that show (the straps) are pretty and that the fit is good.  Whether you can see my wobbly bits is largely irrelevant as the only person who gets an eyeful is my husband, who doesn’t seem to mind!

I quite like this getting old thing.  Makes holiday wardrobe choices so much easier!

  1. I’m the same. I like swimming but bot in the sea. I prefer the pool and sitting in the shade outside!
