Dear Diary

I’ve been keeping a diary for some 30 odd years and even now, when I have access to all this technology, I still prefer a pretty notebook to record my thoughts as well as the highs and lows of the year.  I stick all sorts of bits and bobs into it; tickets, receipts, photos (in the old days when they were printed out!), postcards and invites.  I also still buy and hoard proper magazines: Good Housekeeping, Woman & Home, Marie Claire, Gardeners World, Red, and regularly tear out articles for inspiration and stick them in the diary, although Pinterest is a new obsession that pretty much does the same job!

The diary is great for giving me perspective.  For example I’ve listed things I was worried about at work that now have absolutely no significance.  I also chuckle at the 1983 entry that says 8st 2 FAT!!!!MUST DIET!!  I must have been crazy, although I seem to remember wearing a pale blue flying suit and red pixie boots in 1983 so that confirms it really.

I can also review my fashion advice to myself over the years ranging from ‘what to wear to get promoted’ (circa 1990) and what to wear for all parties that were going on for the Millennium!

I do have a problem with storage – where to keep this towering pile of memoirs? Answers on a postcard please…
